Tumbledown Benefit Concert

Farmington, Maine: The public is invited to a benefit concert for Tumbledown Conservation Alliance (TCA).

The concert, organized by WordPlay Theater, will feature the Mt. Blue Voices, Franklin County Fiddlers, Northfield, and Emeritus UMF Professor Dean Bennett, who will read from his new award-winning book, "The Wilderness from Chamberlain Farm: a Story of Hope for the American Wild." Other performers will include Peter and Donna Campion, Kate Reid, Hannah Sloane-Barton, Jay and Shane Smith, Bob Kimber, and others. As an added attraction, hawks and owls will be in attendance, showing their support (sponsored by Aerie East).

TCA has recently completed fundraising for protection of 7,600 acres adjacent to Mt. Blue State Park. All proceeds of this concert will go toward Phase II of the project, which seeks to protect 12,000 acres along the Tumbledown-Jackson Range. TCA's goals are to conserve ecologically sensitive land, to ensure public access for traditional recreation, and to promote a sustainable local forest economy.

The concert will be held at 7:30 PM on June 1st at Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for children, although more will be gratefully accepted.

TCA (www.tumbledown.org) is a coalition of local citizens and non-profit groups (Friends of Webb Lake, Friends of Maine State Parks, Foothills Land Conservancy, Western Maine Audubon, and Appalachian Mountain Club) that has worked with the State of Maine and the Trust for Public Lands to conserve lands in the Tumbledown-Mt. Blue region. WordPlay Theater is a local non-profit reader's theater. For more information, contact Sarah Sloane... Sloane@maine.edu, (778-7484, 778-4770) or Drew Barton Barton@maine.edu,(778-7397)
