Byline: DENNIS HOEY Staff Writer The summit of one of Maine's most popular hiking destinations will be protected from development under an agreement between conservation groups and the Maine-based company that owns Tumbledown Mountain.The Trust for Public Land, a national conservation organization, announced Friday that the federal Forest Legacy Program will allocate $1 million toward the purchase of Tumbledown Mountain's spectacular summit and 11,800 acres on its northern and western slopes.
